Fun, Flowers & Faux Bridal Showers

Every once in a while, you’re gonna need an excuse to get your girls together and let loose a little. There’s no shame in it. These events get many names, like Girls Night Out, Baby Shower, Birthday Party, Wedding Shower, Bridal Party bonding, College Reunion, Book Club…you name it, there are many, many ways we could describe the incredibly important act of hanging out with our friends.

When it comes right down to it, we don’t NEED to come up with a reason to gather (ahem, drink wine) with our people and do something fun, but it never hurts to “market” the concept when we are selling the idea to the hubs, the baby sitter, the parents, the kids, etc.

Sample argument for needing to go: “I have to go to girl’s night out, Laurel will be there and she is only in town for a few days and I haven’t see her in forever!” Fool-proof.

At You Do, we are as on-board as the next person for a crafty night out fueled by Chardonnay and finger food, but we also are laser-focused on our mission. In case you aren’t familiar with that mission, it’s to bring the beauty of flowers to the masses, and to get rid of the notion that working with flowers is hard, or expensive or reserved for little old ladies.

We have decided it’s high-time to throw those ideas out the window by providing a great opportunity for you, your friends, neighbors–anyone really–to get hands on with the blooms and create some magic!

To test out our theory, we recently invited a group over on a lovely, humidity-free evening to hang out and “do” some flowers. We got them there under the pretense of having a “faux bridal shower” so everyone threw on their best sundress and wedges, put on some springy lipstick and came over for a night of fun and flowers.

This group was an assortment of young women in their mid-20’s and all could be accurately described as flower newbies.  Absolutely no judgement here!

They didn’t have a clue what to do with flowers other than throwing the whole bunch into a container and Instagramming it to the world. And please don’t get us wrong–that’s a totally OK way to do flowers! However, this also leaves a TON of room for creativity to take place! It ups your Insta-game and it makes your beautiful blooms last longer! Talk about a win-win!

Armed with a glass of wine, a table full of blooms and a whole bunch of gumption, these ladies buckled down and learned how to do a basic hand-tied bouquet.

After the big time arrangements were complete, we had plenty of blooms left over so we gave them some ideas for what to do with the leftovers, like windowsill vases and boutonnieres or mini corsages.

I’m sure we’ve mentioned it before, but one of the coolest parts of flower arranging is that all participants used the same materials, and all came up with some incredibly beautiful and distinctly different bouquets. Who knew that your personality shows through your flower arrangement? Now we do!

After the exhausting work of playing with flowers, we all gathered around the table to enjoy each other’s company, taste some yummy hors d’oeuvre’s and of course a glass of wine or two. All the makings of a great night of fun.
